LucasArts bekämpft Remedy Entertainments Logo
Remedy Entertainment , bekannt für das vor einer Weile angekündigte 3D-Actionspiel Max Payne und den Final Reality Benchmark , ist vor kurzem von LucasArts des Logo-Plagiats beschuldigt worden sein.
In einem Brief an Remedy Entertainment schrieb LucasArts Anwalt John Sullivan folgendes:
"The Remededy Entertainment logo so closely resembles the
top portion of the LucasArts logo, which, like the Remedy Entertainment logo, forms an eye, that, considering LucasArts' prominence in the computer game industry, it is hard to believe that the Remedy Entertainment logo was not copied from the LucasArts logo. Accordingly, we ask that you conform no later than July 17, 1998 that plans to use the Remedy Entertainment logo have been abandoned and that another logo, which does not resemble the LucasArts logo, will be used instead."
Falls Remedy heute also nicht das Logo austauscht, droht ein Gerichtsverfahren. Die Logos enthalten beide im oberen Teil ein stilisiertes Auge mit Wimpern und sehen sich dadurch ähnlich.
In einem Statement hat Scott Miller von 3DRealms, Remedys Distributor, vor kurzem auf die Anschuldigung geantwortet:
"It's true that both logos have an eye, but beyond that aspect they are entirely different. I can assure all that
Remedy did not purposely incorporate an eye in their logo to copy the LucasArts logo--the fine artists at Remedy are a little more creative than that! I'd say that the only people who are confused by these two logos are none other than LucasArts' attorneys. I'll bet the rest of the gaming community has no trouble telling them apart."
Laut dem US-Spielemagazin Next Generation denke man jedoch bei Remedy sowieso schon seit einiger Zeit - unabhängig von LucaArts Anschuldigung - über den Einsatz eines neuen Logos nach, da das derzeitige nicht mehr so recht zum Image passe. Viel Zeit zum Überlegen bleibt jedoch nicht mehr, falls man eine Klage ersparen will, egal wie berechtigt oder unberechtigt diese auch sein mag.
